Environment: committing today to preserve tomorrow
Committed to sustainable fishing
Antarctic waters are home to exceptional ecosystems, and their preservation has always been central to the commitment of CAP BOURBON and all French toothfish fishermen. Long committed to responsible and sustainable fishing, the operations of CAP BOURBON and OCEANE Production are certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), a globally recognized eco-label.
Based on 28 performance indicators, the MSC assessment focuses on three key aspects: the long-term sustainability of fish stocks, the minimization of environmental impact (preserving ecosystem diversity), and an effective management system.

As a member of the SARPC (Union of Réunion-based Freezer Longliner Shipowners), the company fully adheres to the industry’s code of conduct. It participates in numerous scientific and exploratory studies and contributes to the implementation of an improvement plan for bird protection and the monitoring of bycatch.
Through the Southern Seas Foundation (Fondation des mers Australes), established in 2013 by SARPC members, CAP BOURBON also supports innovative projects aimed at understanding, raising awareness of, preserving, and showcasing the natural wealth and resources of the Southern Seas.
We are taking action to reduce the carbon footprint of our operations, both at sea and at our onshore facilities.

The CAP KERSAINT: a vessel designed to minimize its environmental footprint.
- Propulsion diesel-électrique (depuis 2017) : XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
- Azimuth thrusters: enhanced maneuverability and reduced acoustic footprint, certified BV Comfort Vib 3 and Noise 3.
- Auxiliary propulsion kite: SeaKite, designed by Beyond the Sea (recent addition)—utilizing wind power in a high-wind zone to save fuel.
- Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan: creation of a streamlined fairing to reduce hydrodynamic drag and optimize energy efficiency.
- Moon pool (the first longliner in the world to be equipped with one since XXXX): an indoor well for line deployment/stern ramp for deployment, ensuring the safety of crew members and birdlife. This system also facilitates the counting of bycatch.
- Bureau Veritas classification: +HULL +MACH, Fishing Vessel, Unrestricted Navigation, +AUT-UMS, +RMC, Ice Class 1C — guarantees of technical and safety standards.
- Full MARPOL compliance:
- strict waste management
- emissions reduction, wastewater treatment
- emission reduction
- recovery of heat from exhaust gases to heat the ship.
- Management and treatment of discharges
- Complete plant effluent treatment system.
- Silage tanks for treating and storing organic waste in compliance with TAAF/MARPOL requirements.
CAP BOURBON has chosen to set an example in preserving fragile areas by equipping the *Cap Kersaint* with innovative technologies.
SeaKite: CAP BOURBON prioritizes innovation with a world first for a fishing vessel.
CAP BOURBON marks a major step forward for sustainable fishing by equipping the longliner Cap Kersaint with a 100 m² SeaKite®—designed by sailor-engineer Yves Parlier and developed by his company, Beyond the Sea. Scheduled for installation in late 2025, this automated wind-propulsion system harnesses wind energy to assist the vessel, thereby reducing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
Adapted to the demands of deep-sea fishing—even in the most remote areas—this operational technology demonstrates the potential of wind-assisted propulsion systems to support the decarbonization of the maritime sector. Sized to optimize vessel performance, the 100 m² wing relies on intelligent control systems to maximize propulsive thrust.
With SeaKite®, CAP BOURBON harnesses the power of the wind for more sustainable fishing.
Food safety: continuous monitoring of standards and traceability from vessel to plate.
- The cold storage facility holds European sanitary approval, ensuring strict quality management:
- Temperature control throughout the supply chain.
- Complete product traceability.
- Rigorous control and hygiene procedures.
Our priority: ensuring impeccable food safety.

A unique certification in Réunion
Since 2019, Océane Production has held the MSC eco-label for the processing of products from sustainable fisheries, including MSC-certified Patagonian toothfish. It is currently the only processing facility in Réunion to hold this certification.

Products for the people of Réunion and for export
Products for the people of Réunion and for export: Océane Production currently offers over 21 product lines, 11 of which carry the “Nou La Fé” label—a mark of recognition for local expertise.
